The ultimate stock market game champions from West Ranch High School are aiming for a win at the Capitol Hill Challenge. The challenge started February 6th and continues until May 12th, 2017.

The SIFMA Foundation Capitol Hill Challenge (CHC) is a special edition of the Stock Market Game™ that partners as many as 10 junior high or high school teams with local Members of Congress (MOC). The top 10 teams with the nationally top-ranked portfolios will win a trip to Washington D.C. to meet their respective Members of Congress and also tour various financial landmarks and national monuments. In order to win, the students have to use the most volatile stocks and have a day-to-day trade.

However, just because the West Ranch team wins most competitions does not mean the game has always been easy. Eunice Yi, a senior officer stated, “Since the stock depends on the political climate or weather change (oil or gas), it is very hard to predict how the stock will move.” And because of this reason, the club meets every day at lunch to manage their stocks.

This Capitol Hill game is very important to the club since it is not only a national competition but also the first game of the year. Junior officer Giann Espino commented, “I am a bit nervous for this competition because it is the first time for West Ranch competing at the Capitol Hill.”

But unlike Espino, Yi seemed excited. “Since this will be my last Capitol Hill competition as a graduating senior in high school, I am really excited to accomplish something more than my state competitions.”

In order to place above top 10, the club continues to work their hardest to accomplish what they aim for. They have been preparing since the beginning of the school year, every day, figuring out the best way for the team to win. With the spiritual support from West Ranch High School, the club warned other teams, “Watch out – the champions are coming!”
