Class registration season is back, as juniors, sophomores, and freshmen try to decide what classes to take next school year. Students spend a great amount of time to deliberate before making their decisions.

In this season, school administrators, teachers, and counselors emphasize the importance of choosing classes and provide special assemblies during classes and one-on-one sessions to help individuals register into the suitable, and adequate courses.

Joy Dunn, a counselor in La Cañada High School (LCHS), told JSR, “I want students to… find their interest and develop themselves as mature learners, not just try [to get] done with high school requirements.”

Dunn also advised students to consider carefully taking a number of Advance Placement (AP) classes, telling JSR that “AP classes do expand academic abilities and guarantee educational achievements. However, they are clearly burdensome.”

Dunn encouraged students to love the classes that they’ve chosen while also handling their time wisely and sleeping, eating, and hanging out with friends to make their lives rich and joyful.

Ilene Kung, a sophomore at LCHS, connected her classes for next year with her interest and her academic abilities. Kung told JSR that it is important to take proper classes because challenging and interesting classes may enrich individuals’ learning experiences and many colleges look at students’ schedules. Because she is good at math and science, she enrolled in Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Physics, and Honors Chemistry.

Both counselors and students agree that courses impact students’ abilities in terms of learning. With that in mind, students need to consider courses carefully and have discussions with their friends, families, and teachers to ensure a wonderful school year.
