During their week-long semester break from Jan. 26 – Feb. 2, 52 Loyola High School juniors toured 15 prominent colleges as part of Loyola’s annual East Coast college tour. Students visited Ivy League schools as well as various parochial universities and the Naval Academy.

A typical day’s schedule consisted of waking up early in the morning, travelling by bus from campus to campus and visiting up to three colleges per day. As the students attended information sessions and campus tours, they wrote down notes and observations.

Many students noticed a conspicuous change in climate. “The tour… not only gave me a feel for some [of] the best colleges in the nation, but it also gave me a taste of what the East Coast weather is like and what life outside of sunny California is like,” said participant Harrison Nuzzi.

Overall, many students who attended the East Coast tour felt the benefits of being able to experience campus life and college expectations firsthand. “I thought this tour was very useful because it allowed us to see the schools in person and learn from the students about their experiences,” said Ramon Sison.

Matthew Young said he enjoyed Brown University’s “open-curriculum” and “shopping period,” which enable students to take both essential and enjoyable classes that will help them choose their majors.
