This summer vacation, many students are thinking about going to the beach. Yet few local students have driver’s licenses, making it hard to travel to nearby beaches. For people in the Crescenta Valley, however, that’s no reason to worry!
Not many students in the La Crescenta/La Cañada Flintridge area know about the beach bus that opens during the summer. The bus started running during June and will continue service until the first week of September.
The bus stops at several areas before heading to Santa Monica Beach. The bus leaves the County Library on La Crescenta Boulevard in La Cañada at 9:25 a.m. If you’d rather get on the bus at the corner of Foothill and La Cañada, be there at 9:45. That is the last stop the bus makes before heading out to the beach.
If you’d like to make a round trip, be sure not to be late getting back to the bus! The beach bus leaves Santa Monica at 3:30 p.m., returning riders to the Crescenta Valley area at about 5.
Despite the convenience, less than half of the people who responded to a recent informal survey said they knew of the bus. Yet the bus is a better deal than going to be beach by private transportation, since drivers have to pay for gas and parking fees at the beach. The beach bus, however, is surprisingly cheap. It costs only $3 each for children and adults to make a round trip.
According to La Cañada sophomore Elizabeth Chyn, “the bus is really clean and coolly air-conditioned; I definitely recommend it to everyone.”
