USC Buys Verdugo Hills

Earlier this summer, USC’s Keck School of Medicine announced that it had made a $30 million deal to purchase Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale.

Opened in 1972, Verdugo Hills Hospital is among the largest hospitals in in the area with prestigious Emergency Room (ER) and certified physicians. For the 40 years priot to the USC purchase, Verdugo Hills operated as an independent community hospital.

According to the Los Angeles Times, USC’ wanted to expand into the Foothill community and increase the efficiency of the current hospital by adding and improving the ER. Verdugo Hills wanted to gain access to the high medical quality services and expertise of USC. The LA Times also reported that the hospital is considering adding a special center for cardiac patients provide more surgery options and reduce medical costs.

Nearby residents welcome the new change in their community.

Jennifer Lee, a resident of La Cañada Flintridge, commented, “I think it is great that the local residents can get quality medical services and tasks performed by the USC faculties without driving long ways into the urban areas.”

On the hospital’s new homepage, USC Verdugo Hills CEO Len Labella commented, “Verdugo Hills Hospital has been an integral and valued part of the Foothill communities for decades, and we intend to retain that important connection to our patients and the residents we serve.”
