Livingstone CDC Hosts Third Gala Show

Livingstone Community Development Corporation (CDC) held its third annual gala show on Saturday, September 14.

Livingstone CDC was formed three years ago by Dr. Kyung Il Park to give low-income families the opportunity to receive medical help. After two years of development, the clinic has over 20 doctors and nurses who volunteer during their free time.

The student volunteer arm of the group consists of high school students who raise money to help the community and the clinic by going to events to help raise money for this non-profit organizational clinic. It was the student volunteer organization (SVO) that planned the gala.

“The students in this club plan the gala show every year to recognize the amazing volunteers,” said Min Lee, a junior in the SVO. “It is a huge event.”

“Without the help of these doctors, it would have been hard to operate the clinic,” said Sarah Kim, a mother of a student volunteer. “I am so grateful for these doctors. They come out on weekdays or weekends to help low-income families have the opportunity to seek medical help.”

The doctors, however, weren’t the only people recognized at the event. With the help of a few community leaders like the Irvine mayor Steven Choi, Stanton mayor David Shawver, and State Assembly candidate Young Kim, the student volunteers were recognized for their hard work with awards.

“It is such an amazing feeling,” said Helen Ko, a senior SVO. “When I received my award, I felt like I accomplished so many things to help the community around me.”

Eunice Kim has been part of JSR since her freshmen year and has been an editor for three sessions. A senior at Arnold O. Beckman High School, Eunice likes to spend time with her friends and be involved in the community. She hopes to end well during the last session of JSR and hopes to help her group as much as she can for a few more months. She is mostly eager for her graduation day. Eunice started the Korea Daily student reporter program during her second semester freshmen year. She wants to continue writing for this program until she graduates. She is shy when meeting new people but once you get to know her, she is very outgoing. The only wish that Eunice has right now is to be a senior and graduate from her high school.
