Inspirational author Conor Grennan visited Harvard Westlake School on Sept. 30 to talk about his boo,” Little Princes,” a book that that had been “highly recommended” to the student body.
The book is a true story that tells about Grennan’s journey to Nepal. Grennan says that the original reason he went to Nepal was because he wanted to impress others around him by helping some orphans. However, a quick vacation ended up changing his entire life because he realized that the orphans were victims of human trafficking.
In the Civil War-torn country in which children were liable to be forced into military service, Nepalese parents were paying men that claimed they were going to keep the children safe. However, these men took the money from the parents and soon abandoned the children. Grennan knew he had to bring these children back to their parents. With minimal resources and through constant struggle, Grennan managed to bring many of these children to their parents.
Now, Grennan has established the Next Generation Nepal Foundation to help victims of human trafficking to reunite with their families. Every time someone buys “Little Princes,” a portion of the money goes to this foundation.
In honor of his visit, the cafeteria had Nepalese food for students and faculty to try and Grennan stayed after the assembly to take pictures and sign books. Grennan also told everyone to keep in touch through social media.
A student said, “The book was very touching and it was so nice to meet Grennan. I loved Grennan’s speech and his sense of humor, and it was so cool to hear about his journey directly from him.”
