With recent advancements in robotics technology, we may be close to an era in which users can own personal robots that can be programmable and able to do anything the users want.
Brian David Johnson and his team of experts are creating Jimmy, an open-source robot that would be as readily programmable as a smartphone. Brian is developing the source code via an in-progress book called “21st Century Robot” that is currently being developed online. Eventually, the book will contain detailed instruction how how to assemble the parts using a 3D printer for a price range of between $500-1000.
Danny Baghdasarians, a member of the Crescenta Valley High Robotics club, is excited for the open-sourced robot. “I can’t wait for that invention to become available to students. This will create a interest in creating robots. Imagine the possibilities of using Jimmy in everyday life .”
The robots be assets for children and the elderly alike. Said Johnson in a CBS interview, “your kids can create apps that can play games or program it to remind an elder to take their medication.”
