Theme parks all over Southern California are transforming themselves with Halloween decorations as the annual haunting date looms near. All amusement parks taut the superiority and variety of their new, haunting attractions and psychopathic chasers compared to those of other parks.
While most of these parks direct their focus towards audiences looking for a night of ultimate horror, an alternative choice is provided at Disneyland’s Halloween Time celebration. Although commonly mistaken as being “too childish,” Disneyland’s celebration actually serves as a great opportunity to spend time with family.
“I honestly don’t think paying nearly $100 to be chased around a dark park until midnight, like at Six Flags or Universal Studios, is reasonable,” local high school sophomore Justin Shin said. “If I were to choose between having fun with my family and trick or treating at Disneyland with my little sister and running around with my friends with not much candy, I would go for the first choice,” he added with laughter.
Disneyland’s Halloween Time celebration features classic Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes and pumpkins on every windowsill throughout the park. One of the most popular attractions of the park during the Halloween season is Haunted Mansion Holiday. Each year, the attraction features a new gigantic gingerbread house made of 240 pounds of gingerbread, 160 pounds of fondant and 150 pounds of royal icing.
This year, a digital projection screen was added on to the ceiling of the portrait room in addition to the freshly-baked mansion. The portrait room has no windows or doors, and visitors are given a “chilling challenge – to find your way out.” Since the mansion is open to children of all ages, the challenge is not a terribly frightening experience.
For around $60, you can also go into the park in costume to trick-or-treat at a number of stations throughout the park. The stations have a plethora of candy for visitors.
Halloween Time at Disneyland can provide a phenomenal experience for those looking for an alternative to other theme parks’ Halloween celebrations. The Halloween Time for Disneyland continues through October 31.
