Host is Wrong About “Frozen”

Kevin Swanson, a pastor and right-wing radio host, recently accused the makers of the Disney film “Frozen” of advocating homosexuality, bestiality, and witchcraft. Yet Swanson’s views about this film are unreasonable and unrealistic, and his words are overly sexual and inappropriate.

“Frozen,” a Walt Disney film, has grasped the hearts of movie critics and Disney lovers alike. Having won two Oscars and one Golden Globe Award, “Frozen” has been recognized worldwide for its soundtrack and animation. Yet “Frozen Fever” has affected Pastor Swanson in another way.

During his “Generations Radio” show, a popular radio show hosted by Swanson and Steven Vaughn, Swanson has declared the movie to be “satanic” and “evil.” According to Swanson, the sisterly love of protagonists Elsa and Anna is propaganda to make children turn gay.

Additionally, he has questioned Disney itself, asking radio listeners, “How many children are taken into these things… produced by an organization that is probably one of the most pro-homosexual organizations in the country?”

It is unfortunate that Swanson, someone who preaches about God and love, does not realize the many kinds of love in this vast world. Two women do not have to be lesbians to love one another.

Besides, Elsa and Anna are siblings! Isn’t it obvious they love and care for one another as family?

Not only has Swanson accused the film of containing homosexual themes, but he has also criticized the film of having themes related to bestiality and witchcraft. Because of one the characters, Christoff, enjoys a close and friendly relationship with his reindeer, Pastor Swanson has said the movie depicts bestiality. Because Elsa has magical powers, he has said the film encourages children to turn to witchcraft and sorcery.

Yet many fans have been left in disbelief. In an interview with JSR, West Ranch sophomore and avid “Frozen” fan Sabrina An questioned Swanson’s logic.

“Does that mean all pet owners support bestiality?” she asked. “I love my dog. But that doesn’t mean I’m advocating bestiality.”

She added, “[His] beliefs are absurd.”

This is not the first time Swanson has made news through controversy. Previously, he has tried to get attention by stating that purchasing Girl Scout cookies encourages lesbianism and abortion and advocating the stoning of gay participants in the Super Bowl parade.

Fortunately, Swanson’s objections don’t appear to be making much of an impact. Disney, which stands as one of the most loved family-oriented companies in the world and earns billions of dollars, has made it clear many times that it will not listen to people like Pastor Swanson.
