Gum. Many people chew it everyday. It’s sticky, chewy, and makes your breath smell good. Surprisingly, gum has certain benefits when one chews it. Many people chew gum just for the taste of it, but they are unaware of the benefits of chewing it.

Numerous studies have shown that chewing gum improves a person’s memory and boosts his or her mental performance. When test subjects chewed gum, the data showed that their improvement in concentration and mental ability was caused by chewing gum. It is thought that increased blood flow from chewing the gum is the cause of the boost.

Another benefit of chewing gum is the alertness. When chewing gum, the jaw is constantly moving, which stimulates nerves inside the body. By doing this, a person might feel more awake if they’re tired. A specific flavor that helps with this purpose is mint-flavored gum.

Chewing gum also protects teeth. If you chew sugarless gum for about 20 minutes after a meal, your teeth can be prevented from developing decay caused by the acid on your teeth. Chewing sugarless gum actually reduces the amount of acid on your teeth after a meal, essentially acting as a tooth cleaner. It has been proven that by doing this after a meal, one can reduce his or her chances of developing plaques, cavities, and gingivitis.

The biggest benefit of chewing gum is helping smokers quit smoking. Many people become smokers because they crave the cigarettes to smoke, which satisfies their needs. Craving is the real problem. These people cannot help themselves because their body needs their daily dose of nicotine. Products such as Nicorette gum deliver a controlled amount of nicotine to the person’s system, which attempts to reduce their cravings.

So, if you ever come across a time when you want to chew gum, but people tell you not to, chew it anyways because it has its benefits that are going to help you.
