International Week at Woodbridge High School

Posted on May 15, 2012 by Hoyeon Lee

Last week, students celebrated International Week at Woodbridge High School each lunch day in the quad. The week’s activities, hosted by the Associated Student Body (ASB), included dancing, singing and a trivia quiz bowl on different countries.

“We held this event to bond students closer together and help them understand newer cultures,” ASB member and junior class council vice-president, Caitlin Nguyen, said. “We wanted them to see the world in a greater perspective.”

The quad was filled with the flags of many different countries and the event reached its peak on Friday as students dressed up according to their nationality.

“I wore a yellow-and-green shirt to symbolize Brazil,” sophomore Ashley Shelke said. “I’m proud of being a Brazilian in America.”

Staff also participated in the event by enjoying an international week-themed luncheon with foods from different countries on Friday and enjoying student performances.

“It was really a good experience seeing my teachers have fun learning about new cultures,” Shelke said. “My teacher talked about how excited she was during my first and second period classes.”

International Week will end this Tuesday at the International Food Faire where student will fundraise for clubs by selling food.
