On April 30th, 2011, PAVA (Pacific American Volunteer Association) held their annual Los Angeles River Cleanup. There were a total of 1,500 volunteers (PAVA, and non-PAVA) present during the day of the cleanup.

While walking down to the river, one volunteer, Jonathan Kim stated, “I’m excited because this is my first time volunteering in a place like this and I always wanted to do something for our environment.”

Later on, one of organizers of the river cleanup came around and gave a short speech. She explained, “This is vital to you guys, too. This river definitely affects us and it affects the food we eat.”

When the day was done, the volunteers had done a good thing for the environment and some students had even learned a lesson about the collective value of a cleaner environment.
