Brand New Teachers

Posted on November 1, 2011July 27, 2012 by Tiffany Ha Yeung Yang

The new school year of 2011-2012 has started. This year, Yorba Linda High School introduces its first Senior Class of 2012. Last year, YLHS had approximately 1370 students; today, it has over 1800 students on campus. Celebrating the first year to have all four Classes on the campus, YLHS welcomes eighteen new teachers: Donna Brothers, Carol Carson, Christine Collins, Charlene Dagampat, Carol Duralde, Kelly Fritz, Dana Gigliotti, James Hay, Mark Honig, Jessica  Hung, Erin Lang, Wendy Lowry, Meshall Maes, Jenni Messick, Wesley Peacock, Garielle Stephenson, Lorri Walls, and Chris Wright.

Carol Carson, Photography and Art teacher, illustrates YLHS as a school with an “upbeat” culture. She says, “I am very impressed by the academic excellence, team-building spirit and the extraordinary facilities” of YLHS. Other than teaching, Carson has passion in volunteering and art; she “volunteered at a homeless shelter, at various art organizations, at an animal shelter and rescue, and at a preservation association of historic architecture”.

Donna Brothers sees an “enthusiasm” in YLHS that distinguishes itself from other schools. When she was asked about an interesting fact about herself, she answered, “I used to work for CBS Entertainment and before that KCBS New. I was also once in a music video”

Mark Honig, U.S. Government teacher, praises YLHS because “there is a heightened level of enthusiasm demonstrated by administration, staff and students alike.  It makes coming to work every day a pleasure”. Mark Honig came from Esperanza where he taught AP US Government and Comparative Politics and coached wrestling for 8 years.

Christine Collins, a German teacher, also appreciates the way school “understands the benefits of advanced technology in the education process”. Her active personality can be seen from her various activities. Collins tells, “When I was in High School and College, I was a competitive sailor, dirt bike rider, and punk”. Her favorite food is “a thin crust Naples style pizza and ice cream with nutella”.

Yorba Linda High School has a promising future with its new teachers who are spirited about teaching and excited about leading the students to be the leaders of the world.
