Siblings, who one calls brother or sister everywhere you go, can in reality be one’s best friend or worst enemy. Typically siblings fight on a regular basis but there are particular sibling relationships that are very close and friendly.  There are also times when people might naturally end up taking their siblings for granted; however, many don’t realize the benefits of siblings, and how useful it is to have a sibling.

First, siblings make one physically healthier. According to realsimple.com, “43 percent believe that friends and family have the largest impact on how healthy our lifestyles are. And staying fit together may help grow that sibling bond.” Finding some sort of physical activity to enjoy together as siblings or taking the first steps towards healthier eating with a sibling can be highly beneficial for one’s health.

However, that’s not the only way it can help with health. Having a sibling or engaging in activity alongside a sibling also helps with mental health. It is proven that having a sibling makes someone have better mental health because they feel less lonely and some feel protected and safer. For instance, having an older brother who serves as a protector helps one feel safer or having an older sister to talk to when times are tough can help one feel less lonely.

Sometimes siblings can be the worst but they are beneficial.

In the end, even though one may call their brother or sister by that title just because they are part of one’s family, there are others that call upon and rely on their siblings for much more.  Ultimately, one has to realize the benefits of having a sibling because a sibling is definitely much more than just simply a brother or sister.
