Keeping Connected Through Letters During Quarantine

Posted on May 25, 2021 by Susan Kim

As we can all agree, social gatherings are difficult to participate in due to quarantine. Although there are many options to communicate online with friends and family, sometimes we want to communicate through something that reminds us more about that person. For this, many people on the Internet have been sharing photos of handmade cards and gifts sent to their penpals. Gifting someone something special is a great way to show how thankful you are for having that person in your life,

If you are interested in sending a letter or gift to your penpal, the Internet has creative ideas, as many people have come together to create distinctive pieces for their penpals. Whether you live far away or not, handmade letters with a kind message will always make the person receiving them feel special and cared for. If you live close to your penpal, drop your gift in their mailbox, or on their front porch. If not, visit your nearest post office. Make sure that you write their address in the middle of your envelope or package, the return address on the top left corner, and who your special present is to and from. Also, if you are going to take your gift to your post office, make sure you place a stamp on your package.

If you plan on doing this and you need some tips on creating your first letter, here is some information you can use. First and foremost, try to write a letter that will make your penpal feel that you have put in effort. Although it takes some time to handwrite and decorate your letter, that extra work put into your letter is going to have much more of a neat look. Another tip is to decorate your letter with things that remind yourself of that person. To help with special decorating, you need nothing but the most special stationary. As you send joy to your penpal, consider sending joy to other people as well, by purchasing your stationery from small business owners online, or any near you.

If you don’t feel comfortable with finding a person online, which is completely fine, you can do this with friends, family, and whoever you would like to have as a penpal. Also, as another method of staying safe, make sure to wash and sanitize your hands before writing your letter, to make sure you aren’t sending anything other than your letter and the kindness in your heart. Staying safe is essential especially during COVID-19 rules, so make sure you keep yourself and your quarantine buddy safe.
