The popular South Korean girl group, I.O.I is disbanding after a final concert in January.

The group consists of eleven members: Sejeong, Yeonjung, Yoojung, Doyeon, Somi, Kyulkyung, Nayoung, Sohye, Mina, Chungha, and Chaeyeon. These eleven girls came from several different companies such as Pledis, MBK, Redline, Fantagio, JYP, JellyFish, and M&H Entertainment. Their most recent songs “Very Very Very” and “Whatta Man” have gained huge popularity in the Kpop industry. I.O.I is promoting for one year and will go their separate ways once their contract ends on January 31.

I.O.I is a group of eleven trainees that won by popular vote on a reality girl group survival program, also known as Produce 101. Produce 101 is a large girl group project in which one hundred and one trainees from over forty different companies compete against each other to debut as a girl group.

Debuting with the songs “Crush” and “Dream Girls” in April 2016, the group has topped the Gaon Charts. Over one year of promotion, the members appeared on over twenty television programs and were the models of several commercials. Having been formed by a cable channel, Mnet, I.O.I went through tough times promoting. However, after KBS allowed I.O.I to appear on a public broadcast, Music Bank, they soared high in the industry.

Many fans are disappointed about the upcoming disbandment of I.O.I. Jasmin Song, a student attending Rio Norte Junior High, said that “if some of the members return to their own companies or groups, they will not be recognized as much as they were in I.O.I.” This reason is the highest concerns among the fans. Another common reason is that the members made such a good group that it would be regretful to part on their own ways.

The members have future plans in which Yeonjung rejoins her group, Cosmic Girls, Sejeong and Mina regroup with Gugudan, Chaeyeon joins back with DIA, and Kyulkyung and Nayoung join their group, Pristin. The plans for the rest of the members are still not certain. However, the last chance to see them perform as a whole group is on their 3-day concert: “Time Slip- I.O.I.”
