Socks – once thought of as hideous – have grown in popularity among teens today. Whether they are bringing back olden days with ruffles or wearing socks with hot dogs printed on them, almost everyone is starting to take interest in socks.

Zendaya Coleman, a famous actress from the film Shake it Up, has been posting pictures of her socks daily on her website and her official Instagram. Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber are also posting “sockselfies.”

One popular sock company, Sockittome.com, has been successfully merchandising socks for over nine years. Yet recently there has been an explosion of business. The company expects to sell about five million dollars worth of socks this year, which is a 40% increase from 2012.

Sway, an employee at a local Urban Outfitters, says that he has also seen “a rise in socks being sold” since he has worked at the store.

“Socks like our knee high or the ankle designed socks are very popular,” Sway said in an interview with JSR.

The popularity of socks is taking interest in both new and older generations. It adds an extra touch to the outfit for both males and females in a unique way.

Dr. YuKyung, a doctor in Korea says, “It is interesting to see the changes in the generations… Socks tell a lot about the person wearing them.”

Let’s all go sock shopping.
