The The CVHS football team, the 2014 CIF Southern Section Southeast Division champions, started off their season with a 51-8 win against Verdugos Hills High School. This promising beginning has made CVHS football a favorable contender for the championships. Their victory is even being correlated to the success of the 2014 season.

The 2015 season, however, didn’t quite live up to everyone’s expectations after the team’s amazing victory the year before. The football team went into the playoffs, tied for second, but unfortunately lost to the Angelus League kingpin Cathedra. Therefore, the team is more determined than ever to regain the title this year. There are many favorable factors pointing the team in the right direction.

To begin with, the team intends to utilize its improved offense and defense line all throughout the season. The offense line includes key players such as junior offensive lineman Destin Jordan, senior left tackle Michael Alvarez, and junior centers Riley Center and Jordan.  However, the key to this line will be starting quarterback Cole Doyle. A returning sophomore, Doyle scored the winning touchdown in the final week of the season against Arcadia last year. “I definitely feel the pressure in being a sophomore and the starting quarterback,” Doyle said. “But I feel really confident in myself and the offensive line.”

The members of the defense line are still to be determined but the defense line has earned a strong reputation over the years. Senior defensive lineman Nobel Leduc, however, will play an important role in assuring the success of the team. With a staggering 122 tackles and 7.5 sacks, high expectations have been placed on him.

The football team has developed a close bond over time. This is key, because it allows players to rely on one another and work together efficiently. A close knit relationship introduces a unique characteristic in a team, irreplaceable with even practice.

We wish the CVHS football team luck as it makes its way into the 2016 season!
