Due to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan seems to be coming closer to its own destruction.

On August 2, in an interview with Kyodo Communication, Japan’s former Prime Minister, Fukuda Yasuo, criticized that Abe is leading Japan to its destruction. It was initially an interview that was set up to observe Fukuda’s reactions towards the historical controversy that arose in the Gake and Moritomo educational institutes. However, Fukuda went further to criticize Japan’s most fundamental problems.

While talking about the two educational institutes, he also referred to the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Abe’s cabinet. He said,”[…] all high ranking officials in every government department of Japan are working with the face of Yoshihide Suga.” He further went on and stated, “I am ashamed. My country is coming closer to destruction.”

As the Chief Secretary of Abe’s Cabinet, Suga was never hesitant to make ludicrous remarks about Japan’s colonial history in Korea. He made shocking statements about comfort women, saying that regardless of what actions the new Korean government takes, their indifferent attitude (i.e. not apologizing to the comfort women) will not change.

He even once expressed pity towards the Lotte company for not being able to provide the land for the foundation ceremony for the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. These forces were a heated debate topic during the last few years. As it was legalized by America for Japan to have a military force like this after the war, it had been finally allowed by the American government again that the Self-Defense Forces could participate with the US anywhere on Earth in a sense of “supporting” the US military forces, which further supported Japan’s militaristic expansion. However Fukuda was not hesitant to talk in favor of the military force of a country that had an inhumane history during the first and second World War.

In order to manage government officials in a unified institute, Abe established a separate institute for managing people of the cabinet. What Fukuda had pointed out was that the Deputy Secretary of Abe’s Cabinet, Koichi Hagiuda is in charge of it: a person who works directly under Suga.

Fukuda blames Suga for the controversies since it is now in Suga’s hands to decide who works in the high ranks of government departments. He stated, “A politician must not determine who gets to work as government officials. This is the most fatal mistake by Abe’s cabinet. ”
