A Weekend at the South Central Park Zoo

Posted on November 30, 2012November 30, 2012 by Yaerin Song

How do you spend your weekend? Many may mistakenly believe  that Koreans, especially the students, spend their weekends in their rooms just studying. However, there were actually many Korean students at the Seoul Central Park Zoo on Oct. 28. Filled with teenagers who came with their friends, families and young adults for dates, the zoo was crowded with many people willing to enjoy the nice breeze of autumn and watch the animals.

Park Min jae (28) said with a smile, “It feels nice to be off from work and to spend a great time with my friends at the zoo. Many may say that the zoo is a place just for the young children but I think it’s also a relaxing place where I can remember my childhood.” Many Koreans go through their lives nonstop without even giving themselves a small break when they can rest and take a step back from the busy lives they are going through. Among many other places, the zoo is a great place to take a break because people get to recollect memories of their childhood and spend a comforting time with the people they are close to.

As autumn arrived, many people came out to make a visit to the zoo to feel the cool breeze that provides them a peaceful time. There is a diverse range of animals- bears, lions, tigers, hippopotamuses, elephants, giraffes, alligators, gerbils, monkeys and more. The children who went to the zoo spent an amazing time actually seeing the animals instead of just reading about them in books. Many parents were glad to see their children having a fun time.

A teenager who was with a group of friends, Kim Seul-ki (17), said, “I wish I would have more chance to spend time outside and hang out with my friends!”

It’s great to see how people are not just stuck with the stress that the world gives to them, but are spending their time outside and actually having face-to-face interaction.
