An Historical Moment of Korean Americans: PAVA

Posted on December 6, 2011July 27, 2012 by Tiffany Ha Yeung Yang

On November 27,  After their practice from September 30 to November 26, Pacific American Volunteer Association had its first Korean American Participation of 80th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.

With over 180 participants dressed in traditional Korean costumes and dress, PAVA presented traditional Korean drum team, dance teams, and folk musicians.

“The first event is always the most difficult”, Tiger Kang, PAVA president, tells in PAVA parade booklet, “I am so proud of all of our team and participants.” In eighty years, 2011 was the first year that had Korean Americans present themselves with tradition of Korea. Kang says, “This will be an event people will talk about for a very long time, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
