Kindle Fire 2

Posted on July 30, 2012August 7, 2012 by Sarah Kim

Kindle Fire

By the time November rolls around, Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet will be a year old, so it’s safe to assume that the second generation will arrive soon. But the real question is how soon. According to China Times, soon is within a week, as it has estimated that some 2 million units will start shipping on August 7th.
Both tech blog BGR and China Times explained that the newer model will have a higher-quality metal casing to replace the current plastic back. AllThingsD also mentioned that the next Kindle Fire’s screen would have a ratio of 1.60, compared to the current 1.71 ratio. Moreover, this next generation is assumed to pack a built-in camera, have a display resolution of 1,280×800 pixels, and feel lighter.
BGR also stated that Amazon would release two new Kindles where the 7-inch version would be called “Coyote” and the 10-inch “Hollywood.” The tech blog also wrote that while the Coyote would still contain the same dual-core processor like the first gen. Kindle Fire, the Hollywood tablet would be equipped with a more powerful quad-core processor.
This Kindle Coyote is estimated to cost $199 and bump $50s off the original Kindle Fire and lower it to $149.
Even if Amazon begins selling two new tablets, competition will be rough as it will have to compete with the already successful Google’s 7-inch $199 Nexus 7 and tentative Apple’s 7-inch “iPad Mini.”
