Posted on March 30, 2012May 16, 2012 by JSR

Overview

1. An Introduction to the 8th International English Writing Competition

The International English Writing Competition (IEWC) is an English essay writing event that is co-sponsored by JoongAng Ilbo and Yonsei University, which is a top-ranked private school in Korea. This competition has been the most authoritative English writing competition in Korea since 2007.

More than 5,000 applicants from Korea, the U.S., China, Canada, and the Philippines have participated in this competition to showcase their talent in the field of writing. In our last competition, about 350 students applied from Los Angeles alone, and there were a total of 67 prize winners among them.

The IEWC is open to students currently enrolled in any grade from the 3rd grade of elementary school through the 12th grade in high school. The students who apply are divided into four divisions: Lower Elementary School, Upper Elementary School, Middle, and High School. This event may be a good opportunity to find out what your writing skill level is based on where you place in the competition and in your division.

All the applicants will receive an 8 page report card for their essays. All the awardees from the high school division will automatically be qualified to become junior student reporters  without screening.
