Too much snow ruins Christmas travels in NY

Posted on August 22, 2011May 17, 2012 by Jae Kim

Fans of a “White Christmas” got a snow-full the next few days in the east coast of America. From December 26 to December 27, a heavy and disastrous snow storm occurred.

“Two days after Christmas…Wow, I am very disappointed about this whole situation,” Sunny Song, a mother from Los Angeles who came with her family for a family vacation, furiously said.

The snow storm lasted until December 27, causing a mess on the roads and inconvenience for people. The 14 inches of snow covered entire streets and cars.

While many New York City residents were not as surprised to find they had to deal with the snow, many tourists were shocked and angry about the surprisingly freezing weather. They were restrained from sightseeing around New York and their planes were delayed for a few days. Planes were not able to take off or land in New York City the day after Christmas, causing massive schedule delays.

“After waiting two hours in line to reschedule my original plan that the airport canceled, all they say is that I can either reschedule to leave 10 days later from my original departure date or get a refund,” Jin Kim, a University of California, Riverside sophomore student who visited New York to celebrate his 20thbirthday, complained. “I mean, if I arrive to my school ten days later, I’ll miss the first day of my classes, which will make me lose the classes,  resulting in me having to stay an extra semester for the classes I’ve missed!”

“My high school student son has to take his finals in a few days!” Song said. “What is this? We came here for a fun 4-day vacation, and now we’re stuck in this freezing city. We didn’t even bring enough money to stay 11 extra days. Thank God we brought our credit cards. I have to pay for our house mortgage…”

Most travelers who were planning to leave the east coast were delayed a few days depending on their arrival locations.
