The Remedy to Repetitive Life?

Posted on January 26, 2021January 27, 2021 by Cleopatra Kuk

Quarantine undoubtedly has made life extremely dull. With distancing measures, the majority of our lives have been transferred to online portals. There is one opening, however, that we can enter during the endless hours spent alone. Video games have become a popular method of entertainment for those stuck at home. Three games– Minecraft, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Among Us– are perfect for quarantine and can be the remedy to repetitive life.

A video game that has resurfaced with exponential popularity — especially during quarantine — is Minecraft. Because it has endless possibilities that can be explored alone or with friends, Minecraft is great to play during quarantine. The game has a multiplayer option, in which players can connect with their friends through servers (created by other players or professional providers), hosting their own unique games and lobbies. Players can also create a survival multiplayer server. Here, friends can play the original game together, and can choose to beat the game as a group or live another exciting life inside of a computer — especially when life can be so mundane.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (AC:NH) , the latest edition of the Animal Crossing series is another great game for quarantine. Players embody a human character that lives in a village with anthropomorphic AI villagers. Unlike Minecraft, AC:NH is much more passive, with calming, daily tasks for players to complete. These include fishing, bug catching, fossil digging, and general interactions with the villagers. In the game, the player creates a unique relationship with each villager through computer-induced conversation. Nintendo utilizes its Switch Online membership to open the gates of multiplayer worlds, in which fellow gamers can connect and visit each other’s islands. The reason why this game is appreciable during quarantine is because of its enormous artistic creativity that players can take advantage of (and show off to friends)! The game allows the player to customize their looks, home, and general island. For players who are looking to unleash individuality and imagination during quarantine, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a wonderful solution.

The last game that has become huge in the gaming community is Among Us. In a multiplayer lobby ranging from 7-10 people, where 1-3 players are randomly selected as imposters among crewmates, whose main goal is to kill before they can finish their tasks. The catch is, the crewmates do not know who the imposters are. Therefore, imposters must be sneaky when killing crewmates. There are three maps, a variety of ways to personalize your character, and a random imposter selection code which makes each game unique and interesting. Among Us is a great game for quarantine, as it gives opportunities to make new friends or play with those you know (which can give an edge to the game, since everyone might know everyone’s lying habits)!

Even though life seems to have been cut short because of the pandemic, video ?ames have been proven to be a positive gateway anyone can enter for enjoyment and down-time away from stressful situations. Minecraft, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Among Us have proven to be three popular, distinct, and satisfying games that anyone can enjoy.
