Religion has long been a difficult topic to broach in public, yet over the past decade, there has been a considerable surge of emerging Christian gospels across the world. The advancing technology has opened new avenues of faith through the unimaginably powerful tool: media. To those who are deprived of the opportunities to attend the church for worship, YouTube has grown to be a huge platform for spreading the Christian faith.
Welove is currently Korea’s most beloved Christian gospel team. EunChong Park, the leader of this group, claims that he was a victim of bullying in middle school, and discovered his profound faith for God through a gospel video on his small phone. That was what motivated him to make this platform where young people learn about the true love of God and seek comfort through his teachings. Welove’s most famous songs are “The Time Penetrated”, “The Greatest Love of All”, “God He Shares Our Pain” and “To the Lowest Place.”
Welove recently collaborated with popular Korean artists– Bumkey and Ph-1– on their newest album “Holyhood.” This is yet another superb example of celebrities openly confessing their faith through music to broaden the Christian audiance. This song became Korea’s first gospel music to be listed on Korea’s main music chart. Not only did it introduce non-Christians to the joy of the gospel, but also it worked towards reducing the stigma behind religious music and spiritual sharing of faith. As a devoted Christian myself, I listen to Welove’s song quit often. After a stressful day, their music about our compassionate God gives me hope, relief, and inspiration.
On December 22, I attended a youth revival worship “Victory is Yours” at New Church Downtown, where the leader of Welove spoke. EunChong Park shared his valuable testimony of how he decided to create this amazing team. He explained that although Welove may seem like every member is fancy and strong, they were flawed in so many ways. Despite this, he insisted that God lovingly embraced all those imperfect qualities to shine in God’s great kingdom. His sincere message touched the souls of many young minds at the meeting.
There are innumerable people going through struggles with no one to rely on. The proliferation of encouraging Christian contents in media may serve as an essential connection for them to learn about the beautiful teachings of Christianity. Thanks to the growth of Christian media, more and more young adults get to know the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ.
