The sports season at Centennial High School, which excels at sports every year, have begun. Tryouts were held around the last weeks of August and the new teams are now playing games to try and advance to the state and eventually the national level.

Football is the pride of Centennial High School, and every year the team advances to at least the state level.

From the way things are going so far, it is likely that Centennial will compete on the state level again this year.
According to maxpreps.com, which ranks high school teams, Centennial’s football team is the third best in the nation as of September 17.

“It’s always amazing to see the varsity team practice because they try so hard everyday. I believe that they deserve and earned that 1st in state ranking through their hard work and teamwork,” Roberto Rodriguez, a sophomore on the junior varsity team, told JSR.

Soccer is also a strong sport at Centennial. Although it is not that highly ranked, many people join soccer. The soccer players try their hardest every year, and although they don’t make it to state or nationals, they have a lot of fun on the way.

“I have a lot of fun playing sports, especially soccer, because of the team environment” Douglas Seo, who was on the team last year, said in an interview with JSR.

Centennial offers many other sports such as basketball, swimming, tennis, baseball, and track and field. All of these teams work towards the goal of ranking higher every year. Most teams practice at least three times a week and sometimes even on the weekends.
