Coffee is a beverage that almost 107 million people drink in the United States alone. And, 450 million cups are consumed every day in the United States. Many Americans think that coffee is good for you but many also think that this beverage can be dangerous to your health. There are many benefits if you drink this beverage but also many statements made that are not true at all.
The ingredient in coffee that most people know is caffeine. Caffeine is the substance that makes coffee, as a beverage, so controversial with regards to its effects on health. There are many that worry about too much caffeine consumption and others that support that a little bit of caffeine is beneficial. This active ingredient can make a person smarter as it can “temporarily improve mood, reaction time, memory, vigilance, and general brain function” (Gunnars). This means caffeine is beneficial to one as it improves their brain.
It was also mentioned that coffee may be one of the healthiest beverages on earth. Many people know that this drink also keeps you hyper and awake for a period of time. This beverage is good for when one has to stay up late or just cannot wake up in the morning. Coffee also benefits the body as we can burn fat from the caffeine. It affects the nervous system as it increases metabolism, making one lose what they have eaten, faster.
Coffee can also help reduce diabetes, a disease that about 300 million people have. Type two diabetes is when your body cannot produce insulin. Meaning by drinking coffee, one can help prevent this wide-spreading disease. The risk was reduced by 7% the more people drank coffee.
Not only can coffee be beneficial in the next couple of years for you but also in your old age. By drinking coffee, scary diseases like Parkinsons and Alzheimers can be prevented. These are the most common types of diseases that older people inherit. It is proven that by drinking this liquid, there is a 60% lower risk of getting Alzheimer’s that lead to dementia (Gunnars). Coffee also lowers the risk of Parkinson’s disease by 32-60%. Overall coffee has an life-changing effect on your future self.
One may think that coffee is just another addictive beverage but coffee is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants. This drink is based off seeds from Coffea species. Coffee beans are made of pantothenic acid, riboflavin, niacin, potassium, and manganese. In fact, “coffee is one of the biggest sources of antioxidants in the Western diet, even outranking many fruits and vegetables” (Gunnars). This means that the drink everyone normalizes as bad is actually very healthy. It is the biggest source of antioxidants in the modernized diet.
All in all coffee is extremely good for you. There are many benefits to this beverage and also many diseases can be prevented from consuming this drink.
