First showing prominence in the U.S. in 2008 (according to spinner.com), a new genre of music by the name of electronica began taking over the music industry. Now in 2012, techno music is everywhere: on the radio,TV,movies and more. Electronica music has many more sub-genres, most popular being electro, house and dubstep. Recently, artists usually known for their pop music have been collaborating with techno artists such as Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Afrojack.
Recently, music by big name artists such as Rihanna, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, and Usher, have been heavily influenced by techno and has skyrocketed as one of the most popular in the U.S. This new mix of pop and techno has been dubbed dance-pop, which features simple lyrics and heavy dependence on catchy, heavy beats.
This new hybrid of music has been widely received by the youth audience and has set the trend for future music.
“I like it because it’s high energy and gets you pumped,” said Derek Torng, a 17-year old student of Palos Verdes Peninsula High.“ I like it because it’s high energy and gets you pumped. I like to listen to it when I’m working out or at school dances
However, this style of music has also received negative feedback from older listeners.
“Techno music has no real value,” said 50-year-old John Jung who is an avid music listener and father of two. It’s the same thing repeated over and over again. I really do not like my sons listening to it. I also feel that music should have meaning to it.”
Another trendy style of electronica music includes dubstep and house. These styles have heavily influenced the club culture and have started their own type of concerts called raves. Some notable artists include Skrillex, Benny Benassi, and Flux Pavilion.
Although EDM has been attracting a lot of attention recently, I wouldn’t say it’s new. Electronic music has been around for many years. But great article nonetheless! :)))
I only know Rihanna, Chris Brown, and Usher. Haha it’s really weird talk to you in this way haha
Your first quote kinda repeated itself and you forgot some of the quotation marks haha but other than that it’s nice that you’ve revised and gone over your article. It’s a good topic to talk about currently, and you could have also added the individual flairs of each of the artists like you mentioned like flux pavillion and how they attract its audience compared to skrillex for instance since you’re talking about how electronica is becoming more well-known, or at least expound on the sub-genres to people who are unfamiliar with the differences. goo0d job!!!!!!!!!!
