Nineteen year-old singer-songwriter Roy Kim, best known for being the youngest winner of the annual Super Star K series, released his debut digital single “Bom Bom Bom” on April 21.
Within two weeks, the country music-influenced number rose to the top of several K-pop charts including the Korean Billboard chart. The music video, which was also released on the same date, has reached 1.6 million views on YouTube.
Yet there are rumors that the song is plagiarized. According to critics, the song’s melody resembles two popular songs: “From Where The Wind Blows” by Kim Kwang Seok and “Take On Me” by A-ha. While the issue hasn’t been completely resolved, CJ E&M, Kim’s entertainment agency, has denied any allegations of plagiarism.
